Directions to Boulevard Park from Edens Hall
On foot (about 30 minutes): Cross High St., and find the stairs that go down between the Viking Union (on your left) and Mathes Hall (on your right). Go down those stairs to Garden St. On the other side of Garden St., there is a footpath, with more stairs, going down to Forest Ave. (There is a sign here that says “Foot route to Boulevard Park.”) Take the footpath, and then continue in the same direction down Pine St. for about two blocks, until you find another footpath and some more stairs going down. These come out on a busy road called Boulevard (no last name (or maybe no first name)). Cross with care, and continue down some more stairs. These will take you to a biking/walking trail. Go left (roughly south) on this trail for about nine tenths of a mile. When you cross the train tracks you will be in Boulevard Park. Our barbecue will be in the middle of the park, or possibly in the northern (near) half. Look for some nerdy people with frisbees.
By car (about 5 minutes): From the corner of High St. and Oak St, go down Oak St. one block to Garden St. Turn left on Garden, go one block, and then turn right onto Cedar St. Go down two blocks and turn left onto State St. Take State St. until it ends by running into a road called Boulevard at an unusual angle. Turn left onto Boulevard. Go about half a mile until you come to an intersection with a pedestrian crosswalk, where Boulevard curves to the left and there are two smaller roads going to the right. (There is also a sign here for the entrance to Boulevard Park.) Turn right onto Bayview Dr. (You’ll be making a hard right rather than going straight or curving left with the main road.) Bayview takes you to the entrance to the park. We will probably be somewhere in the middle or on the far end of the park.
Directions to Boulevard Park from Fairhaven
On foot (about 15 minutes): Find the Village Green (in front of the Fairhaven Village Inn and behind Village Books), at the corner of Mill Ave. and 10th St. There is a footpath where 10th St. would be if it continued north at this point. Take the footpath north for about a quarter of a mile until it comes out on (another section of) 10th St. Continue on 10th St. for two blocks until you come to an inviting pedestrian walkway on your left that heads out over the water and then turns to the right. Take this walkway until it ends at the south end of Boulevard Park. Continue in the same direction, keeping close to the water, until you pass a small building and a children's play area. Then look for the barbecue, which will probably be somewhere in the grassy section of the park on your right.
By car (about 2 minutes): Go north on 11th St. about eight blocks to Bayview Dr., a.k.a. the entrance to Boulevard Park. Turn left on Bayview, go down the hill, and cross the train tracks. You’ll be at the south end of Boulevard Park. The barbecue will probably be somewhere in the middle or northern half of the park.
Directions to Boulevard Park from Downtown Bellingham
On foot (about 30 minutes): Find the biking/walking trail that continues south from (roughly) where Railroad Ave. ends at Maple St. (Boundary Bay Brewing Company is on Railroad, very close to the corner of Railroad and Maple. Remember this for later.) Take this trail for about a mile. When you cross the train tracks you will be in Boulevard Park. Our barbecue will be in the middle of the park, or possibly in the northern (near) half. Look for some nerdy people with frisbees.
By car (about 8 minutes): Head south on State St. When you get to the end of downtown, the main road you are on bears to the right, and State St. continues straight ahead as a smaller road. Bear right with the main road. This puts you onto Boulevard (no last name (or maybe no first name)). Proceed on Boulevard about one and a quarter miles until you come to an intersection with a pedestrian crosswalk, where Boulevard curves to the left and there are two smaller roads going to the right. (There is also a sign here for the entrance to Boulevard Park.) Turn right onto Bayview Dr. (You’ll be making a hard right rather than going straight or curving left with the main road.) Bayview takes you to the entrance to the park. You’ll be at the south end of Boulevard Park, and the barbecue will probably be somewhere in the middle or northern half of the park.
