Community College Faculty Teaching Institute in Marine Science
In late August 2010, Shannon Point Marine Center and COSEE Pacific Partnerships hosted a week-long teaching institute for community college faculty. The goal of this program was to help community college faculty incorporate marine science into thier classes and curriculum. The program brought marine scientists together with community college faculty to share current research regarding the effects of climate change and anthropogenic perturbations on coastal and marine ecosystems. Community colleges participating in the institute included:
Each day of the institute included presentations by scientists conducting research in marine and climate science, teaching and lecture materials, lab and field exercises, and group activities for curriculum and course development.
