Chicago may have its "Cows on Parade," but San Francisco has its "Hearts in San Francisco," an arts project which drew more than 130 artists. Their heart sculptures were displayed in parks, on street corners, sidewalks, and in plazas throughout the city. Hearts were chosen to symbolize the tolerance, acceptance, and open-heartedness San Francisco is known for. Although the hearts were auctioned off, with the proceeds going to San Francisco General Hospital Medical Center, some are still available for public viewing.
