I am an Associate Professor of Political Science at Western Washinton University. My main area of research is international security. In 2012-2013, I will be serving as a Franklin Fellow at the United States Department of State in Washington, D.C.
I obtained my doctorate in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park. My research areas include civil conflict, terrorism, border security and diaspora politics. My work has been supported by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism and the Border Policy Research Institute, Western Washington University. I teach a number of courses in international relations, including on global terrorism, democratization and American foreign policy.
